February 26th Marks World Pistachio Day - Celebrate Global Pistachio Snackin

Did you know the Chinese refer to the pistachio as the “happy nut,” because it looks like its smiling?  The little green nut is often gifted during the Chinese New Year as a symbol of health, happiness and good fortune.

Academy Awards of Snacks

I feel I’m uniquely qualified to write this post because I am, after all, a champion snacker and an avid moviegoer.  Although I try to make my between-meal noshes healthy, that’s hard to do with the super-sized boxes of Mike & Ike’s, Junior Mints and Dibs, and buckets of popcorn sold at movie theatres.

Thank you for being such an advocate for good nutrition and daily exercise for the prevention and treatment of childhood obesity.  As First Lady, you have the power and influence required to actually make a difference in this war against childhood obesity.

Super Bowl Done Right! Game Day Strategies for a Healthy Super Bowl Spread

Like the other 140 million Americans, I’m looking forward to the New Orleans Saints taking on the Indianapolis Colts in Super Bowl XLIV (44) on February 7.  I know nothing about Peyton Manning or Drew Brees or what a two-point conversion is, but I watch the game to see the ads and, even though I’m a dietitian, I like snack foods too!
