Q:
Aren’t pistachios high in fat?
A:
While pistachios are rich in dietary fat (14 grams per serving), almost 90% of the fat is unsaturated. Pistachios also have no trans-fat, which are found mainly in partially-hydrogenated oils. In fact, pistachios are supported by the FDA health claim for heart health which states: "Scientific evidence suggests but does not prove that eating 1.5 ounces per day of most nuts, such as pistachios, as part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol may reduce the risk of heart disease.
